Neither he, nor the work itself, take themselves seriously, which is a mental/emotional posture I have found to be essential for realization and insight.

Ron's version of this classic text is a must simply because he he creates from a book of poetry a dialogue for the 21st Century. What Hogan wants to do is create something that will offer us" how to live a productive , meaningful life on a day to day basis." To do this, he speaks to us with his own voice, and that voice is so precious, so rare in todays homogenous "copy and pasted" world where everyone emulates what everyone else is doing, that you are presented with a wonderful opportunity - as Lao Tsu so wanted - to empty the nonsense from our minds and begin afresh. He presents us with just what the world needs to hear right now.
Highly entertaining "translation" of the Tao Te Ching, but not highly accurate. That's OK, though. A lot of it is still interesting and some of it is indeed spot on. Just don't take it for a scholarly interpretation. Definitely worth a look, and I think it'd be a great introduction to the Tao Te Ching and Taoism for people wanting to get started.
I'm not qualified to review this, I reckon, but I will anyway. This is a most awesome and enjoyable modern rendition of the Tao Te Ching. Hogan states upfront that this is not a translation. Nor does he read Chinese.
If you're into the Tao, and you don't have a stick up your @$$, you just might dig this. If you liked the "Dude De Ching"(The Big Lebowski version of the TTC) but long for something just a smidge more serious, this is your baby.
Honestly, I can't recommend this enough. Or, well, I could, but I won't.

This book is a clear and simple interpretation of the Tao To Ching. If you are a snob about your classic texts you may want to skip this title. If you want a simple, pragmatic interpretation of the tao te ching that anyone can understand this is a good option. For the price you really cannot go wrong. What do you have to lose?
A little too tongue-and-cheek at times, but an excellent read.
I love this book! This is a simplification of the Tao Te Ching. It's written to utilize modern lingo and examples. This takes away from the multidimensional writing of a direct translation, but I find it easy to swallow without extra study. A direct translation offers a deeper understanding but does require some additional research to understand ancient cultural views. I highly recommend this.
These stories are worked out to have both a sense of humor and a serious plot. Hurray for the author who didn't resort to gratuitous sex. Never been to Russia and I enjoyed the names and geography lesson
